Welcome to #lurk.

Not Dead Yet!
UPDATE: Wow that was close! Thanks to everyone who donated at the last minute! Don't forget we still need money for the second server so if you still wish to donate please do so. Again thanks all! Hey everyone! Again it's donation time and we need your help! So please donate and if you have already, thank you for your support. Okay I know we haven't been updating the bots as frequently lately but do not assume we are not working furiously to satisfy your manga needs. Next month we plan to launch the new site which will be armed with a new whole set of features. For example we are going to implement user uploading and a better update system to allow for quicker new release updates. Also bot cleaning/repacking will be done seamlessly through the website. A basic tagging/rating/favorites system will be implemented which will allow for custom RSS feeds. People who contribute through uploads or donations will have the option to remove those crappy popup ads! This is only a preview of what's to come as there is much more planned before and after launch.

So keep hope alive dear lurkers, the future is around the corner.

Updates
First off it's donation time again. As some of you might have noticed our goal has changed this month. This corresponds with an increase in server costs which happened earlier this year due to an increase in electricity rates. We're also going to try something different this month by splitting the donation drive in two segments. The first segment will be the 6th to the 16th with a goal of $719 the next will be 17th-24th for a goal of $179. This is inline with the two servers and their respective due dates. The donation page will reflect the current total but Heffer's spam script will reflect the two segments. If however the total goal of $898 is met before either of these dates the current donation drive will end.

I can understand this may seem confusing at first but I think this clears up why sometimes one server might go down before the other if the goal is not reached. It is also more in touch with the real server due dates rather than adding several goals into one. If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me on IRC or via email.

One last thing, we are still in need of a web designer/graphic artist for the new site. I really want to get the new site up ASAP as it provides a lot of new features and will make using #lurk easier. The majority of the basic functionally is already coded and we just need someone to make it look pretty. If anyone is interested please contact me. Thanks again to everyone who has contributed to #lurk in any way.

Help a lurker out
It's donation time again so you know the drill and a big thanks to all those who have contributed. We are also in need of a graphics/website designer to help out with a new website. So if anyone is interested please contact me.

Donations
Mirrors and Neverwhere are back. Thanks to everyone who came to the rescue and donated. We are still a little short this month so if you can please contribute. Every little bit helps. Thanks again to all our supporters. UPDATE: We made our goal this month! Thank You! Also if you still wish to contribute please don't hesitate as we will need money again for next month.

Cleaning and Donations
First off over the next couple of weeks the bots are going through an intensive cleaning period. You can check the progress by watching the New Additions page. A huge thanks to the archive staff for all their work. I've also decided to shutdown Wandypot. We have another two new release bots in addition to Delirium. If we ever need her again she will come back. Lastly but most importantly, it's donation time again and we need your help. The 3rd year of anniversary of #lurk is right around the corner (March 25th) and we hope to be around for another 3 years. Whatever donation you can afford is greatly appreciated. And of course thanks to everyone who has donated and the awesome staff who keep #lurk up and running!

Christmas Releases
So it's christmas. (Happy Holidays to those that celebrate) That means, for us, a hell of alot of releases. With the volume of additions a few bad apples are bound to make their way through, so, if you notice any corrupt files stop by #lurknet and let one of the OPs know.

Donations Again
UPDATE: We made the deadline just in time and with some left over for next month. THANK YOU!!! Hey just to remind everyone the donation drive is in full swing and we are somewhat short this month with only a few days left. Please donate whatever you can afford and to those who have donated thank you for your support.

Donations
We had a pretty successful donation drive last month and therefore this month's drive will be pretty short. We only need about $80 to cover this month's server costs. Also thanks to last month's donation drive another harddrive was added to the main server. Oh and we have another New Release bot, Upgrayedd, make sure you try him out. Thanks everyone!

Blarg
Well it appears we have lost both HardGay and Anikei|Manga. If anyone else is interested in donating some server bandwidth towards a new release bot, stop by #lurknet and talk to a staff member. Anyway we reached our donation goal for this month by a large margin. Thanks to everyone who donated!

Updates
First off I want to let everyone know about a new lurk game created by Aelia, please check it out at lurklotgd.net. Also if you haven't noticed the Yaoi/Yuri bots have returned. We are still looking for someone to help update the Yuri bot, if interested PM Stalyn on IRC. Finally our upstream provider has bought some new fiber which should increase your average download speed. Expect more updates in the coming weeks.

Thelurker.net Back Up
Update: Everything is back up running again. The secondary server is down due to OS/hardware problems. This server hosts thelurker.net, Wandypot, Underwhere, [UR]Dan and a bunch of other stuff. Hopefully it will be back up in the next couple days. Thank you for your patience.

New Lurk Logo
As you probably have already noticed we now have a new header featuring the new #lurk logo designed by VANEEA. Look out for a brand new website in the future and a bunch of other goodies!

Donations
Update: We met our goal. A big thanks to everyone who donated. The donation deadline is creeping up and we are still short by a decent amount. Now I understand that we've crunched donation drives together as of late which probably explains the lack of recent donations. However the advertising money came in this month and took out a large chunk of what needs to be raised. The deadline is the 15th but we really only need to raise $699 by this date, so if we can meet that goal the rest can trickle in by the 22nd.

If you are unable to donate for whatever reason there are still other ways to help out. We are still looking for new staff members to fill a variety of positions. If you are interested please leave a message on the forums, stop by #lurknet or just PM me on IRC. And as always we are looking for more bot providers. Again thanks to all those who have contributed and who will contribute in the future.

Mangajin
I just added Mangajin to the Lancre bot. Thanks to hodman on the Lurk forums for the tip. Update: Mangajin v21-30 are now on Lancre.

Happy Birthday
Today #lurk turned two years old. A major thanks to all those who have contributed and kept #lurk going all this time. And hopefully we'll be around for another two years! As a minor offering to the #lurk Gods we have pushed out an improved version of the software we use to run the bots. This will hopefully increase the average download speed. In order to test and fine-tune the code we launched a clone of Neverwhere called Betawhere. Please use this bot as much as possible in order to stress test the code and therefore accelerate the transfer of the major archive bots to the newer software. Thanks.

Network Update
It appears that the recent network maintenance has resolved the networking issues plaguing our provider. Everything should be back to normal now. Just a reminder, please use the New Release bots when downloading recent releases. This will alleviate the processing strain on the archive bots.

Move Complete
The move is complete, it took longer than expected but that's how things go sometimes. Thank you everyone for being patient and thanks to the donators who contributed. Also don't forget the donation drive is still going on to cover the costs of the secondary server.

Important Announcement
I'm sure many of you have noticed that the bots have been slower recently. Please read this detailed post at the Lurk Forums that explains our current bandwidth situation.

A Moment Aside
Hi, I hope everyone had a good holidays. Now recently I've noticed and probably you have as well that there has been an influx of new lurkers. Which I personally think is great since #lurk is community driven and therefore the larger the community the greater the overall lurkiness. So I'd thought it'd be a good idea to break things down for the new lurkers or even for those who are unaware of the mightiness of #lurk.

The current archive is 400+ GBs and monthly we transfer outgoing (the lurker servers to you) about 20+ TBs (terabyte or 1000 GBs). That means we on average transfer the entire archive about 50 times over a month. Let me remind again this is outgoing. I know many of you could probably download perhaps a TB or two in a month. But can you upload it? Maybe think of it this way, imagine having a 400 GB harddrive filled with data and uploading it to someone 50 times a month.

So anyway let me remind you that we are in a donation drive which is a monthly thing (from the 5th of the month to the 20th). The current server costs are entirely appropriate for the usage I just described. Also considering if perhaps 50% of the active users donated a few dollars each wed be able to run for 6 months or so. So I hope this has been informative. And now you know and knowing is half the battle.

The Future
Well, thanks to everyone's help, we've had another successful donation drive. We've also seen a few more people offer to help out, which is wonderful.

In other news, as a result of things going on in my personal life (I actually I have one, I'm amazed to learn), I've decided to step down as the leader of #lurk. It's a decision I've been considering for some time now (as a few of you may be aware). What does this mean for the channel? Well, Stalyn has agreed to take over everything so you probably won't notice any changes in the beginning (though he may choose to run things differently). The channel, the website, and all the bots will still be around, so no worries. And I'll still be wandering around for awhile to help with the transition and maybe after, to help keep sane while being trapped in this country.

It has been fun looking after the bots the last two years. Lots of fond memories (and plenty of less pleasant ones as well). But everyone has to move on eventually. And I'm getting too old for this, I think.

So thanks again everyone for your continued support. And I'll see you out there.
